Nonprofit for abused kids awarded $10,000

Friends of the Children's Justice Center of Maui has been named winner of this year's Bank of Hawaii Mike Lyons Maui Community Award.

The $10,000 award will help the nonprofit expand opportunities for staff training, according to a news release.

Friends of the Children's Justice Center of Maui provides assistance to abused and neglected children and promotes prevention of child abuse and neglect.

The award is presented annually by Bank of Hawaii in memory of Michael H. Lyons II, a retired senior vice president and Maui District manager, and active community leader.
