Commencement tonight at Blaisdell for adult-learning graduates

Approximately 400 students from seven Oahu Community School for Adults will be taking part in tonight's commencement ceremony at the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall.

The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker is local entertainer Karen Keawehawaii, known as the first lady of Hawaiian music.

More than 2,000 adults have completed requirements for a high school diploma through a General Educational Development Test or the Competency-Based High School Diploma Program this school year.

The schools participating were Farrington, Kaimuki/Kaiser, McKinley, Moanalua/'Aiea, Wahiawa, Waipahu, and Windward.

Also tonight, the 2007-2008 Hawaii Adult Education Teachers of the Year are selected.

The honorees are: Ernest Lee (Farrington), Diana Yee San Young (Kaimuki/Kaiser), Lynda M.L. Hino (McKinley), Richard Murata (Moanalua/'Aiea), Lynette Ching (Wahiawa), Medard Aczon (Waipahu) and Aloma Kadooka (Windward).
