TheBoat is back in full service

Advertiser Staff

TheBoat returned to full service for all of its sailings today after sensors on the Melissa Ann's main starboard engine forced the city to cancel one morning sailing on both Monday and Tuesday.

"As a precaution Melissa Ann was taken out of service for further evaluation by the manufacturer's technicians," city spokesman Bill Brennan said. "Technicians tested the Melissa Ann on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning and determined that the Melissa Ann was ready for service Tuesday afternoon."

Over the past four months TheBoat has been operating at better than 98 percent efficiency, Brennan said, having transported more than 40,000 passengers between Kalaeloa and Aloha Tower since it started service eight months ago.

Riders affected by the two cancellations were taken to the Kalaeloa and Aloha Tower piers by a backup shuttle bus service that is in place to transport riders whenever TheBoat is unable to perform its sailings.

Brennan said he hopes commuters from West O'ahu and Honolulu look at TheBoat as an travel alternative as gas prices continue to rise.

Some of the services included with TheBoat are dedicated feeder buses, guaranteed seating, free wifi, bathrooms and a snack bar.
