AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS

Ron Iwamoto has been elected president of the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS' Hawaii Section for 2008. He is a licensed structural engineer, and owner and principal of the structural engineering consulting firm Iwamoto & Associates. He is a former instructor at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa School of Architecture.

SHEET METAL CONTRACTORS ASSOC.

OWEN MURAMATSU, of Elite Mechanical Inc., recently was installed as president of the Sheet Metal Contractors Association for the 2008-2010 biennial term.

Other officers installed: Brian Sen, of Oahu Plumbing & Sheetmetal Ltd., as vice president; Glenn Saito, of Commercial Sheetmetal Co. Inc., as secretary; and Neal Arita, of Alaka'i Mechanical Corp., as treasurer.

PROSERVICE HAWAII

ProService Hawaii has hired Laura Hayakawa as account manager. Hayakawa is a former senior human resources consultant for Bearing Point's Asia Pacific region.

ALAN WONG'S RESTAURANT

Kathy Kawashige has been named general manager, and Michelle Karr has been named pastry chef at Alan Wong's Restaurant.

PACIFIC OFFICE PROPERTIES TRUST

West Coast office building REIT Pacific Office Properties Trust Inc. has hired Brian Shibata as manager of design and construction for its Honolulu operations. Shibata will oversee property redevelopment projects and space planning and design for tenant improvements for its Honolulu portfolio.

PARTNERS IN DEVELOPMENT

Joey Vierra has joined the Partners in Development Foundation as site manager for the Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool Program-Maui. He has 12 years of Department of Education teaching experience.

Ben Kaneaiakala has joined the foundation as program director for Kokua 'Ohana Foster Family Program. He has 18 years of experience in human services.

PARADISE RELOCATION

Paradise Relocation, a newly formed company, has appointed JANE DUKESHERER as its principal broker, focusing on corporate relocation and residential real estate sales. Previously the relocation director at Coldwell Banker, Dukesherer has more than 20 years of experience in working with relocating corporate and government employees to make the purchase or sale of their home tax-free.

HILTON WAIKIKI PRINCE KUHIO HOTEL

David Givens has been appointed general manager of the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel. He will oversee all operations of the recently renovated hotel. For the past 12 years, Givens has been a general manager for Interstate Hotels, serving at a number of its properties, including Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton and Doral. He was most recently general manager of Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

KAHALA NUI

Kahala Nui has announced the following personnel additions and promotions:

Darlene Canto has been promoted from senior living counselor to director of marketing. As the first hire at Kahala Nui, she is credited with more than 50 percent of all sales. She is responsible for developing and effectively managing marketing communication plans, maintaining sales goals, advertising, and event-planning efforts.

Paul Chang has been appointed director of resident services, overseeing the concierge, valet services, resident safety and security and resident satisfaction programs.

Daryn Murai has been appointed senior living counselor, providing tours of the community and informing prospective residents of the benefits of Life Care. Murai was previously an elementary school teacher.

R. Sue Radcliffe has been promoted to administrator of Hi'olani Care Center at Kahala Nui. She brings 20 years of experience in non-profit administration and community relations. Prior to her promotion, she served as director of Kahala Nui University.

Kahala Nui is a senior-living retirement community in Wai'alae-Kahala featuring private apartment homes for independent living as well as an assisted-living facility.

HMSA

The Hawaii Medical Service Association has elected Carla Nip-Sakamoto, M.D., as chair of its board of directors. She is an O'ahu dermatologist who served as vice chair of the HMSA board for the past two years.

New board members are Timothy Johns and Lisa Okimoto. Johns is president and chief executive officer of Bishop Museum. Okimoto is managing director of Resources Global Professionals.
