WAIALUA
EV Team wins another electric-car competition

Waialua High and Intermediate School students proved once again that their skill in electric vehicle racing is the best, taking first place in the Student Class at the Electrathon Grand Prix held in Portland, Ore., last weekend.

The objective at the Portland International Raceway was to go the farthest distance during a one-hour period on a 1.95-mile track over two consecutive days. Michael Montgomery, a senior, drove Electric Vehicle #1 during the two days for a total of 82 miles at speeds exceeding 41 mph.

This is the fourth time in the past six years that Waialua's EV Team has captured first place in the Student Class. The team has two teachers and five students. The students are Montgomery, Lokahi Herrod, Linda Lovan, Malia Maluyo and Lindsay Montgomery. The teachers are Tim Pregana and Glenn Lee.
