UH women sailors in 15th at nationals

Hawai'i remained 15th after the second day of competition at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championship yesterday at Narragansett Bay in Newport, R.I..

Severe weather threatened the start and end of racing, but the regatta continued with eight races completed in both A and B divisions. Seventh-ranked Yale still leads with a low-best 147 points after 14 races. Third-ranked Boston College is next with 154 points.

The Rainbow Wahine have 367 points. Becky Mabardy and Darla Baldwin have scored 215 points in A division. Freshman Hannah Tuson-Turner and Sacred Hearts graduate Jackie McLoughin have 152 points in B division, including second- and sixth-place finishes in the final three races yesterday.

The regatta concludes today with the final four races in the 18-race rotation.


TENNIS

UH'S WEBER HONORED

University of Hawai'i sophomore Andreas Weber was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII men's at-large second team.

Weber, from Huenfeld, Germany, maintains a 3.73 grade point average as a business major. He was a key member of the UH team that won the Western Athletic Conference championship for the first time in program history, and made its inaugural appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Weber finished with a 16-4 overall and 14-3 dual match mark while playing the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 positions. He was ranked as high as No. 25 in the FILA/ITA singles rankings. The 2007 WAC Freshman of the Year and ITA West Region Rookie of the Year earned all-WAC honors in both singles and doubles for the second straight year.
