MLB: Rangers activate Millwood to start tomorrow

Associated Press

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers activated Kevin Millwood from the 15-day disabled list today, and the right-hander was scheduled to start tomorrow night against Oakland in the opener of a 10-game homestand.

Millwood (2-3, 4.88 ERA), the Rangers' No. 1 starter, has been out since May 11. That was a day after he threw only 12 pitches in his last start before leaving with a strained right groin. Millwood threw a simulated game Saturday and had a bullpen session Tuesday without any problems.

The Rangers also recalled infielder Travis Metcalf from Triple-A Oklahoma.

To make room on their 25-man roster for Millwood and Metcalf, right-hander Kameron Loe and infielder German Duran were optioned to Oklahoma.

Also, the Rangers outrighted right-hander Franklyn German to Oklahoma. German cleared waivers after being designated for assignment May 21.

Metcalf opened the season on the DL with a torn left hamstring. He played only one game for the Rangers after being activated May 8, then was optioned to Oklahoma six days later.

Duran was hitting .193 with a home run in 26 games for the Rangers. Loe was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two relief appearances since being recalled May 21.
