Some 38 new officers have joined the Honolulu Police Department following graduation ceremonies at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall Thursday night for the department's 159th Police Recruit Class.

Six of the new officers are combat veterans, five speak foreign languages, four are women and nine of the recruits moved to Oahu to join HPD.

The new officers will be assigned to patrol duties with veteran officers for hands-on training in the field.
