Bucknell stuns Florida State, 7-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Mathew Wilson pitched his school-record fifth career shutout and Bucknell stunned host Florida State 7-0 yesterday at the Tallahassee Regional.

Wilson delivered the Patriot League champion Bison (30-22-2) their first NCAA postseason victory in seven attempts, limiting Florida State (48-11) to six hits while getting 16 groundball outs.

Tulane 7, Florida 4: Tulane (38-20-1) scored six runs in the seventh, erasing a three-run deficit in a win over Florida.

BATON ROUGE (LA.) REGIONAL

LSU 12, TEXAS SOUTHERN 1: Blake Dean belted two home runs and drove in four runs to help LSU (44-16-1) extend its nation's-best winning streak to 21 with a victory over Texas Southern (16-33).

Southern Miss 13, New Orleans 6: Michael Ewing hit a home run and drove in five runs to power Southern Mississippi (41-20) over New Orleans (42-20).

ATHENS (GA.) REGIONAL

Lipscomb 10, Georgia 7: Ryan Wilkins hit one of three homers to help Lipscomb (33-28) stun Georgia (35-22-1) in its first appearance in the NCAA baseball tournament.

Georgia Tech 8, Louisville 5: Jason Haniger and Charlie Blackmon each had three hits and two RBIs, leading Georgia Tech (40-19) past Louisville (41-20). The Yellow Jackets won on the same day the Atlanta medical examiner issued a report showing pitcher Michael Hutts died from an accidental heroin overdose last month.

CORAL GABLES (FLA.) REGIONAL

Missouri 7, Mississippi 0: Aaron Crow pitched a three-hitter and Missouri (39-19) defeated Mississippi (37-25). Crow (13-0) struck out 10 in his fourth complete game and fourth shutout of the season.

Miami 7, Bethune-Cookman 4: Dave DiNatale had two hits and Blake Tekotte hit a two-run single in the seventh to help top-seed Miami (48-8) defeat Bethune-Cookman (36-21).

LINCOLN (NEB.) REGIONAL

Nebraska 13, Eastern Illinois 10: Jake Opitz hit two home runs, and Tyler Farst and Craig Corriston added one each as Nebraska (41-14-1) beat Eastern Illinois (27-29).

UC Irvine 9, Oral Roberts 7: UC Irvine (39-16) jumped on Oral Roberts starter Michael Jarman for six runs in the first inning en route to victory. Oral Roberts (46-13) had its 12-game winning streak end.

CARY (N.C.) REGIONAL

North Carolina-Wilmington 5, Elon 2: Alex Hill had four singles to back a strong start by Bradley Holt and North Carolina-Wilmington (43-15-1) beat Elon (43-17).

North Carolina 16, Mount St. Mary's, Md. 8: Tim Fedroff matched a career high with six RBIs as North Carolina (47-12) routed Mount St. Mary's (21-33).

CONWAY (S.C.) REGIONAL

Coastal Carolina 10, Columbia 2: Nick McCully pitched eight innings of two-hit ball and David Anderson's home run in the fifth inning helped Coastal Carolina (48-12) break open a close game against Columbia (22-29).

Alabama 16, East Carolina 3: Alabama (35-26) hit five home runs and had 21 hits in a rout of East Carolina (40-20).

STILLWATER (OKLA.) REGIONAL

Wichita St. 8, TCU 5: Andy Dirks and Clinton McKeever each hit three-run home runs to lead Wichita State (45-15) over TCU (43-18).

Oklahoma State 5, Western Kentucky 3: Matt Hague homered as Oklahoma State (43-16) beat Western Kentucky (33-26).

ANN ARBOR (MICH.) REGIONAL

Arizona 13, Eastern Michigan 7: C.J. Ziegler had three hits and a sixth-inning rally helped Arizona (39-17) roll over Eastern Michigan (25-33).

RALEIGH (N.C.) REGIONAL

South Carolina 15, Charlotte 8: DeAngelo Mack and James Darnell hit home runs to lead South Carolina (39-21) past Charlotte (43-15).

N.C. State 6, James Madison 2: Ryan Pond hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the seventh inning and North Carolina State (39-20) beat James Madison (38-18).

STANFORD (CALIF.) REGIONAL

Pepperdine 4, Arkansas 3: Chase d'Arnaud hit a home run in the sixth inning to snap a tie and Nathan Newman pitched 6 2/3 strong innings to lead Pepperdine (37-19) past Arkansas (34-23).

UC Davis 4, Stanford 2: Evan Hudson's two-run double in the seventh gave UC Davis (33-22) the lead and the Aggies beat Stanford (33-22-2) for their first Division I postseason appearance.

HOUSTON REGIONAL

St. John's 2, Texas 1: Gino Matias scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the ninth and St. John's (42-14) beat Texas (37-21). Matias scored the go-ahead run on a grounder by Jeff Grantham.

Rice 3, Sam Houston St. 2: Ryan Berry threw six strong innings to lead Rice (43-13) over Sam Houston State (37-24).

LONG BEACH REGIONAL

San Diego 5, California 0: Brian Matusz pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 to give San Diego (42-15) a victory over California (33-20-2).

Fresno State 7, Long Beach State 3: Justin Wilson tied a career high with 11 strikeouts to lead Fresno State (38-27) over Long Beach State (37-20).

TEMPE (ARIZ.) REGIONAL

Oklahoma 8, Vanderbilt 5: Mike Gosse went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Oklahoma (35-24-1) past Vanderbilt (40-21).

Arizona State 9, Stony Brook 7: Brett Wallace went 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Arizona State (46-11) over Stony Brook (34-25).

COLLEGE STATION (TEXAS) REGIONAL

Houston 9, Dallas Baptist 5: Ryan Lormand's double in the eighth inning scored the go-ahead run for Houston (40-22) in a win over Dallas Baptist (37-18).

Texas A&M 15, Illinois-Chicago 1: Luke Anders went 4 for 4 and scored five runs for Texas A&M (44-15) in a rout of Illinois-Chicago (34-21).

FULLERTON (CALIF.) REGIONAL

UCLA 3, Virginia 2: Chris Giovinazzo scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to give UCLA (32-25) the victory over Virginia (38-22)

Cal State-Fullerton 11, Rider 0: Brian Wilson pitched a six-hit shutout in his first start of the season and Christian Colon drove in five runs to lead Cal State Fullerton (38-19) over Rider (29-27).
