OGDEN, Utah — Trevyn Smith ran for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Weber State extended a Big Sky Conference winning streak with a 31-21 win over Portland State today.

The Wildcats (8-2, 6-0 Big Sky Conference) scored all 31 points before the Vikings (3-5, 2-3 Big Sky Conference) could answer with a scoring pass of their own in the third quarter.

Smith scored his first touchdown on a 1-yard dive midway in the first quarter, and then outran the Viking defense on a 70-yard touchdown that gave the Wildcats a 24-0 halftime lead.

The Vikings didn't start off the second half any better. After Drew Hubel was picked off by Weber State's Terrell Cloud on the Vikings’ first play, the Wildcats' Cameron Higgins hit Cody Nakamura on a 32-yard touchdown pass on the next snap.

Weber State forced four turnovers, including WSU safety Scotty Goodloe’s 41-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. Higgins finished 21 of 36 for 242 yards.

Drew Hubel got the Vikings on the scoreboard with a 9-yard scoring pass to Aaron Woods with 11:30 left in the third quarter.

Hubel was replaced by Tygue Howland in the second quarter but re-entered the game at the beginning of the second half and finished 17 of 35 for 208 yards and two interceptions. He was benched again in the fourth quarter when Jimmy Collins entered the game.

Howland threw for 102 yards and was intercepted once.

Collins threw a 29-yard touchdown to Lavonte Kirveni before giving way to Connor Kavanaugh on Portland State's next drive, and the Vikings’ fourth quarterback of the day quickly led his team down the field. Tracy Ford scored on a 1-yard run to pull the Vikings to within 31-21 with 3:46 left in the game.
