Dead girl's 3 brothers removed from home

By Suzanne Roig

Police are still investigating the death of 5-year-old Victoria Sanchez of Makaha, who died after being found unconscious in her home on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police removed from the home the girl's three brothers, ages 13, 9 and 7, said Toni Schwartz, state Department of Human Services spokeswoman. The boys were placed in an emergency foster home with their maternal grandmother, Schwartz said.

"We'll keep them in the foster home until the investigation is completed," Schwartz said. "That takes a while; it could be up to a month."

Police have said they were seeking Victoria's father for questioning about medication he may have given her.

Honolulu Police Maj. Frank Fujii said police yesterday arrested a man, Ronald Sanchez, a relative of the girl, on oustanding traffic warrants, but wouldn't say what his relationship was to the girl.

"No arrests were made today in connection to the death of the girl," Fujii said. "The case is still under investigation as an unattended death. The investigation is still ongoing."

The girl was found unconscious in her bed by her mother. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The cause and manner of her death have been deferred by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office, pending further investigation and medical tests.

Police have said there were no visible signs of external injuries.
