Project Grad funds available to Maui County schools

Advertiser Staff

Maui County has made $60,000 available to support 2009 Project Graduation programs.

"Promoting alcohol- and drug-free events for youth is important, and even more so during a time when communities are celebrating

graduations," Mayor Charmaine Tavares said.

High schools on Maui, Moloka'i and Lana'i can apply for a maximum grant of $5,000, of which 50 percent must be used to subsidize graduates' participation in Project Graduation based on financial need. Funds are available for Project Graduation events being planned by both public and private schools graduating classes in Maui County.

Project Graduation applications are available online at mauicounty.gov/volunteercenter

Applications are also available at the Department of Housing & Human Concerns' Volunteer Center at One Main Plaza, 2200 Main Street, Wailuku, site 601, or by email at wendy.stebbins@mauicounty.org

Deadline to submit completed applications is Dec. 19.
