Central Union school reopens tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

Central Union Preschool & Kindergarten, which has been closed since Oct. 22 due to fire damage to its building, will resume classes tomorrow.

Preschool director Marie Hook said temporary class space has been set up in the parish hall. About a dozen 2-year-olds are expected to be joining over 100 children, ages 3-5, in the kindergarten program at school tomorrow, Hook added.

"We're very grateful to be back," Hook said, "and we want things to be as normal as possible."

The early morning fire was deliberately set and caused over $100,000 damage to the school's 104-year-old building, according to police.

Police said there were signs of forced entry and the 4:14 a.m. fire was started in restroom trash can. The case is being investigated as a first-degree arson and no suspects have been arrested.
