Vinton "Vint" Cerf, a computer scientist often referred to as a father of the Internet, will serve as a headliner for January's Pacific Telecommunication Council conference in Honolulu.

Cerf, who was one of several engineers who worked on the protocols and architecture of what became the Internet, will speak on the second day of the conference, held Jan. 18 to 21. Cerf helped lead the development of Internet and Internet-related packet data and security technologies during his tenure at the U.S. Defense Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency between 1976 and 1982.

He also has served as chairman of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Cerf currently is vice president and chief Internet evangelist for Google Inc.

HEI SET TO RELEASE 3Q EARNINGS

Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. is scheduled to release its earnings tomorrow after the close of financial markets in New York. The state's largest utility holding company has scheduled a webcast of its conference call with analysts and investors discussing the results for Wednesday at 8 a.m.

The webcast will be available through HEI's site and a replay will be available about two hours after the call ends. Constance Lau, HEI president and chief executive officer, will lead the discussions. Also expected to discuss the results is Timothy Schools, president of HEI subsidiary American Savings Bank.

PROSPECT CUTS STAKE IN JAPANESE FIRM

Prospect Asset Management Inc., the Hawai'i Kai investment fund that concentrates on Japanese investments, last week cut its stake in FC Residential Investment Co. to 23.49 percent from 46.50 percent, according to Bloomberg News, which cited a filing at Japan's Ministry of Finance.

Prospect held 7,680 shares of the Japanese property trust as of Oct. 21, Bloomberg reported.

FARGO LEAVES HAWAIIAN AIR BOARD

Adm. Thomas Fargo has resigned his seat on the board of directors of Hawaiian Holdings Inc., the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines.

A filing by Hawaiian Holdings last week said Fargo's resignation was for personal reasons and did not reflect a disagreement with the company.

Fargo, former commander of U.S. Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith, joined Hawaiian's board in March 2005 and at one time served as chairman of the company's compensation committee.

In April, Fargo was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Hawaii Superferry, which indirectly competes with Hawaiian Airlines in carrying passengers between Honolulu and Maui.

HRPT TO DISCUSS 3Q PERFORMANCE

HRPT Properties Trust, a major owner of industrial space on O'ahu, said it will discuss its third-quarter financial results after financial markets close in New York tomorrow. The company will also issue a press release of its third-quarter performance at that time.

People interested in listening to the call can do so at the company's Web site, www.hrpreit.com. The call will begin at 8 a.m. and a replay will be available for about a week after its conclusion.

HRPT, based in Newton, Mass., primarily owns office and industrial properties located throughout the United States.
