1,000 to receive trees at Lawn & Garden Fair

One thousand native trees will be handed out during the 2008 Lawn & Garden Fair and Hawaiian Tree Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens.

The event is sponsored by the gardens and the Maui Association of Landscape Professionals, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources' Kaulunani Program, the county Department of Water Supply, the Maui County Farm Bureau and Maui Electric Co.

Activities include plant sales, tree planting and pruning demonstrations, soil pH testing by Maui Community College's Agriculture Department, plant pest identification, small equipment repair and tool sharpening demonstrations, and a landscape industry trade show. There also will be food booths, door prizes and a silent auction.

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is located at 150 Kanaloa Ave., across from the War Memorial Stadium.
