Kamehameha, HBA top seeds

Defending state champions Kamehameha and Hawai'i Baptist Academy earned the top seeds for this week's New City Nissan/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association girls state volleyball championships.

Three-time state champion Kamehameha (17-2), the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, is seeded first in Division I, followed by O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Kahuku (16-0), Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Waiakea (16-0) and Maui Interscholastic League champion Kamehameha-Maui (13-0).

All seeded teams received first-round bye. Pairings were announced yesterday.

First-round matches begin on Wednesday at Kamehameha and McKinley. The championship is Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Defending state champion Hawai'i Baptist (16-2), the ILH champion, is seeded first in Division II. Seeded second is MIL champion Moloka'i (11-2), followed by OIA champion Kapolei (16-0) and BIIF champion Hilo (16-2).

First-round matches begin on Wednesday at Farrington and Moanalua. The championship is Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
