Maui product Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies earned his first Gold Glove Award as one of the top defensive outfielders in the National League.

Victorino, a St. Anthony High star athlete who helped the Phillies win a World Series, moved from right field to center this season to replace Aaron Rowand, a 2007 Gold Glove winner for Philadelphia who signed with San Francisco.

The team was announced by Rawlings Sporting Goods Company Inc., which sponsors the awards based on votes by Major League Baseball managers and coaches. They can't cast ballots for players on their own teams and can only vote for players in their league.

Greg Maddux won his 18th Gold Glove Award as the best-fielding pitcher in the NL while Carlos Beltran of the New York Mets won honors for the third straight year as one of the top outfielders.

Maddux, a free agent who played last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, has won a Gold Glove every year since 1990 except for 2003, when Mike Hampton claimed the award. The pitcher has the most Gold Gloves of any player at any position, followed by third baseman Brooks Robinson and pitcher Jim Kaat, who both have 16.

New York's David Wright won at third base for the second consecutive season, as did Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins at shortstop. All the other players were first-time winners.

Pittsburgh's Nate McLouth filled the other outfield spots, helping to end Andruw Jones's streak of 10 straight awards.

The other winners were catcher Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals; first baseman Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres; and second baseman Brandon Phillips of the Cincinnati Reds.

American League Gold Glove winners will be announced tomorrow.
