Central Union school reopens in parish hall

Central Union Preschool & Kindergarten, which has been closed since Oct. 22 because of fire damage to its building, resumed classes yesterday.

Preschool director Marie Hook said temporary class space has been set up in the parish hall. About a dozen 2-year-olds were expected to be joining more than 100 children, ages 3-5, in the kindergarten program yesterday, Hook added.

"We're very grateful to be back," Hook said.

The early-morning fire was deliberately set and caused more than $100,000 in damage to the school's 104-year-old building, according to police.
