A 5-year-old boy was struck by a car on Kamehameha Highway near the Kahuku Sugar Mill today at 2:30 p.m., authorities said

The accident occurred at 56-565 Kamehameha Highway. The boy was taken to an area trauma center and was treated and stabilized by Emergency Medical Services, said Bryan Cheplic, EMS spokesman. Later his condition improved to fair and he was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, police said.
