HONOLULU, MIDWAY
Papahanaumokuakea workshop on Midway

Educators and conservation leaders can apply through Jan. 2 to attend a June workshop on Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

The Papahanaumokuakea 'Ahahu'i Alaka'i workshop on the monument's wildlife and cultural resources will be held June 13-23 for up to 12 American and international nominees. There will be three days on O'ahu and a week on Midway Atoll, 1,250 miles northwest of Honolulu and within the monument area.

Participants will be chosen based on written nominations, letters of support, and their capacity to fulfill the program's need for a variety of skills and abilities. In addition, potential participants are asked to submit a draft plan for an environmental stewardship project that will be modified throughout the workshop and implemented in their community on their return home.

Participants will need to provide their own transportation to O'ahu and lodging and meals during the three days in Honolulu, but transportation, lodging, and food costs at Midway Atoll will be covered by the monument.

Go online to www.papahanaumokuakea.gov for more information.

Nomination forms are available by contacting Ann Bell at fw1pie_paa@fws.gov or 808-792-9532. Nominations must be postmarked by Jan. 2. Questions can be addressed to Linda Schubert at 808-933-8181.
