Big Island attack victim dies, case is now a homicide

Detectives from the Big Island Police Department say a man who was assaulted near the Pahoa Fire Station on Nov. 1 died Friday and the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police are renewing their request for the public's help in finding a man connected to the investigation.

The man being sought is 35-year-old Robert Grant of Nanawale. Grant is described as 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He may have dyed his hair.

At about 1:22 p.m. on Nov. 1, Puna patrol officers responded to a call about an unresponsive man in the parking lot next to the Pahoa Fire Station. The victim, identified as 47-year-old Daniel Martina of Pahoa, sustained an injury to his head and was taken to Hilo Medical Center by Fire Rescue personnel. He was then transferred to The Queen's Medical Center on O'ahu in critical condition.
