HAWAII BRIEFS
Teen charged in highway shooting

Advertiser Staff

Prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder and other felony offenses in connection with a June 29 highway shooting near Honolulu International Airport in which 10 shots were fired at 11 people in a pickup truck.

Shaw Awber, also known as Shaw Mohammad Awber, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, carrying or use of a firearm in commission of a separate felony, and place to keep a firearm.

Family Court waived its jurisdiction over Awber — who was a minor at the time of the incident — clearing the way for him to be tried as an adult. Prosecutors brought charges against Awber on Thursday.

A court document said Awber was identified as the shooter by one of the nine girls, ages 14-18, in the 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was shot at on North Nimitz Highway. No one was injured.
