Now on to the real games.

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team completed its exhibition season with an 80-63 victory over Chaminade last night.

A crowd of 2,562 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the Rainbow Warriors win their second, and final, exhibition game against a NCAA Division II opponent. They also defeated Hawai'i-Hilo on Sunday.

"Going into this week after playing against Hilo, our main goal was to get better in our offensive sets," Hawai'i head coach Bob Nash said. "And I thought tonight, against a very good Chaminade team, our guys were able to execute our game plan. We got baskets off good ball movement and player movement."

The final result and statistics will not count for either team, and that's unfortunate for several 'Bows who put up impressive numbers.

Junior forward Bill Amis led the way, finishing with game-highs of 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, and 12 rebounds.

"We executed our offense better and we knocked down the open shot," Amis said. "That's what opened up the flex offense."

Lasha Parghalava added 21 points and four assists, Petras Balocka contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, and Adhar Mayen had 10 points and four rebounds for Hawai'i.

Nash also praised the play of sophomore point guard Kareem Nitoto, who finished with six points, five assists, five steals and zero turnovers.

"You have to start with Kareem," Nash said. "I thought he did a good job of running the team tonight, getting us into our offensive sets."

After shooting 40.9 percent from the field in a two-point victory over UH-Hilo, the 'Bows improved to 50 percent shooting last night.

Parghalava went 0 for 4 from 3-point range against the Vulcans, but was 3 of 5 last night.

"I was working with the coaches to make shots before practice and after practice," he said. "We proved a lot with this second (exhibition) game, that we're going to work hard."

Four key players were not in uniform for Hawai'i last night. Touted recruit Roderick Flemings missed his second exhibition game because he was in Dallas for his grandfather's funeral.

Also, point guard Hiram Thompson (hamstring), forward Brandon Adams (paperwork issue) and guard Conrad Fitzgerald (face) were on the bench, but not in uniform.

Because of the absences, Hawai'i's starting five — Nitoto, Parghalava, Mayen, Amis and Balocka — played most of the minutes.

"I think that we've established some guys that can play," Nash said. "Now we have to blend in Hiram Thompson, and Rod, and hopefully, Brandon."

Chaminade stayed close early, and even held an 18-15 lead with 11:40 remaining in the first half. But Hawai'i responded with a 12-0 run to take a 27-18 lead it would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Parghalava highlighted the surge with two 3-pointers, including a 30-footer as the shot clock was about to expire.

"I know it wasn't that good of a shot (selection), but I made it, so it counts," he said.

Hawai'i shot 80.8 percent (21 of 26) from the free-throw line, but Chaminade won the rebounding battle, 33-32.

The Silverswords won the Pacific West Conference last season, but lost all five starters. They have just nine players on their roster this season, and seven of them are new to the program.

"We didn't play well — we don't have an identity yet," Chaminade head coach Matt Mahar said. "We were waiting for guys to step up tonight, and they didn't."

Jamar Berry and Shane Hanson led the Silverswords with 11 points each. Rickey Clayborn added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

It was also Chaminade's first exhibition of the season.

"Maybe the bright lights got to some of our guys, I don't know," Mahar said.

The Silverswords have two weeks to prepare for their season opener against No. 1 North Carolina in the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

"I don't event want to think about the Tar Heels," Mahar said. "Maybe we should send UH in our place."

The 'Bows will open their season on Nov. 14 against San Francisco as part of the Verizon Wireless Tip-Off Classic at the Sheriff Center.

"We have six days to get ready for San Francisco," Amis said. "Hopefully we'll be ready by Friday."
