HPU, BYUH place 6th, 7th

Hawai'i Pacific placed sixth in the men's division and Brigham Young-Hawai'i finished seventh in the women's race yesterday at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in La Jolla, Calif.

Chico State won the 18-team men's division with 28 points, followed by Alaska-Anchorage (67) and Western Washington (103).

HPU scored 185 points, BYUH had 308 (12th), Hawai'i-Hilo had 312 (13th) and Chaminade had 432 (16th).

Chico State's Scott Bauhs won the 10-kilometer race in 32 minutes, 15.8 seconds. HPU's Dany Malley was the top Hawai'i runner, finishing 25th in 34:35.9.

Chico State won the 24-team women's division with 60 points, followed by Seattle Pacific (92) and Alaska-Anchorage (104).

BYUH scored 208 points, HPU had 332 (11th), Hilo had 529 (18th) and Chaminade had 711 (23rd).

Seattle Pacific's Jessica Pixler won the 6K race in 20:57.1. BYUH's Amanda Whitford was the top Hawai'i runner, finishing in 22:15.5.
