HALEAKALA
Military get free park admission tomorrow

Haleakala National Park is offering free admission to military personnel, past and present, and their families tomorrow in honor of Veterans Day.

The Maui park played a role in the nation's military history by hosting radar installations during World War II and providing training sites for Marines preparing for assaults on Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima.

Veterans Day and National Public Lands Day in September are the only two days when entrance fees are waived at National Park Service sites nationwide.
