Lingle, Aiona release itineraries for Asia trips

Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona Jr. have released the itineraries for trips they are taking to Asia to promote travel to Hawai'i as well as business investments and partnerships with the state.

The two, who departed today, will visit four countries through Nov. 22.

• Thursday, Nov. 13

Lingle, Bali, Indonesia; East-West Center Board Meeting; East-West Center Alumni Conference.

Aiona, Seoul; meeting with Asiana Airlines, Joo-An Kang, president; meeting with Visit USA, David Ruch, chairman, country manager for United Airlines in Korea and Taiwan and vice-chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea; meeting with Korean Air, Seung-Bum Lee, managing vice president of regional passenger sales office; meeting with Kathleen Stephens, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea; dinner with Korean travel agency leaders hosted by Hyatt Hotels Hawai'i.

• Friday, Nov. 14

Lingle, Bali, Indonesia; East-West Center International Conference, "Building an Asia-Pacific Community: Unity in Diversity," deliver remarks on international partnerships.

Aiona, Seoul; interview with Korea Herald newspaper; interview with Luxury magazine; meeting with POSCO Engineering & Construction, Ho-Sup Kim, executive vice president, energy engineering and construction division; meeting with Dongbu Insurance Co., Soon Hwan Kim, president and chief executive officer; "Hawai'i: For Business & Pleasure" seminar organized by Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; 6th Korea-Pacific U.S. States Joint Conference welcome event.

• Saturday, Nov. 15

Lingle, travel day, depart for Taiwan.

Aiona; Jeju Island, South Korea; 6th Korea-Pacific U.S. States Joint Conference keynote luncheon; State Investment Environment Presentations organized by DBEDT, deliver remarks about Hawai'i's investment environment.

• Sunday, Nov. 16

Lingle, Taipei; meeting with Taipei women leaders.

Aiona, travel day, depart for Tokyo.

• Monday, Nov. 17

Lingle, Taipei; meeting with officials of the American Institute of Taiwan; business roundtable hosted by American Institute of Taiwan; news conference and media roundtable with Taiwan travel media; dinner hosted by deputy minister of Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Aiona, Tokyo; meeting with Japan Association of Travel Agents, Kosuke Shibata, president; meeting with JTB World Vacations Inc., Fumiyuki Kitajima, president; meeting with H.I.S., Akira Hirabayashi, president; meting with All Nippon Airways, Shinichiro Ito, senior executive vice president; meeting with Japan Airlines, Shunichi Saito, managing director, passenger sales and marketing.

• Tuesday, Nov. 18

Lingle, Taipei; meeting with Ministry of Economic Affairs and Bureau of Energy; travel industry leaders luncheon; meeting with China Airlines, Philip Wei, chairman; meeting with Ma Ying-jeou, President, Republic of China.

Aiona, Tokyo; meeting with JALPAK, Tetsuo Takahashi, president and CEO; meeting with KNT Kintetsu International, Yoshinori Ochi, senior managing director; meeting with United Airlines, Mark Schwab, vice president, Pacific; meeting with Northwest Airlines, Jeffrey S. Lingle, Shanghai; Participate in the China International Travel Mart – 23 Hawai'i tourism businesses and organizations will be represented at the Hawai'i booth; news conference and interviews with China media; meeting China Eastern Airlines; meeting with China National Tourism Administration.

• Friday, Nov. 21

Lingle, Shanghai; Meeting with CITIC and JTB.

• Saturday, Nov. 22

Lingle, return to Hawai'i.
