NFL: Practice? Packer QB Aaron Rodgers needs it

By Bob Wolfley
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy thinks the lack of practice time for Aaron Rodgers has affected his play for the worse this season.

Rodgers has not been able to take part in all practices each week since injuring his shoulder in week 4 of the season, on Sept. 28 at Tampa Bay.

"The thing that bothers me about Aaron is what him and I talked about (Monday)," McCarthy said Tuesday during his weekly comments on Fox Sports Radio. "I think you can see the lack of practice times kind of showing up in his play. He's a young quarterback. It's just the little things, the footwork, timing, and so forth. That's really his frustration. I love the way he prepares. He spends the extra time. He's played at a high level for us for the most part this season."

Getting the experience of playing in the "tremendous environment" of the Metrodome, as he did Sunday, will make Rodgers better.

"The lack of practice is the thing we're hoping to get over because of his medical situation and get back to just keep improving on the fundamental things of quarterback play," McCarthy said.
