Leaders off to promote Isles

Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona Jr. have released the itineraries for trips they are taking to Asia to promote travel to Hawai'i as well as business investments and partnerships with the state.

The two, who departed yesterday, will visit four countries:

TOMORROW

Lingle: Bali, Indonesia; East-West Center Board Meeting; East-West Center Alumni Conference.

Aiona: Seoul, South Korea; meeting with Asiana Airlines; meeting with Visit USA; meeting with Korean Air; meeting with Kathleen Stephens, U.S. ambassador to South Korea; dinner with Korean travel agency leaders hosted by Hyatt Hotels Hawai'i.

FRIDAY

Lingle: Bali; East-West Center International Conference, "Building an Asia-Pacific Community: Unity in Diversity," deliver remarks on international partnerships.

Aiona: Seoul; interview with Korea Herald newspaper; interview with Luxury magazine; meeting with POSCO Engineering & Construction; meeting with Dongbu Insurance Co.; "Hawai'i: For Business & Pleasure" seminar organized by Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; 6th Korea-Pacific U.S. States Joint Conference welcome event.

SATURDAY

Lingle: Travel day, depart for Taiwan.

Aiona: Jeju Island, South Korea; 6th Korea-Pacific U.S. States Joint Conference keynote luncheon; State Investment Environment Presentations organized by DBEDT, deliver remarks about Hawai'i's investment environment.

SUNDAY

Lingle: Taipei, Taiwan; meeting with Taipei women leaders.

Aiona: Travel day, depart for Tokyo.

MONDAY

Lingle: Taipei; meeting with officials of the American Institute of Taiwan; business roundtable hosted by the American Institute of Taiwan; news conference and media roundtable with Taiwan travel media; dinner hosted by deputy minister of Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Aiona: Tokyo; meeting with Japan Association of Travel Agents,; meeting with JTB World Vacations Inc.; meeting with H.I.S.; meting with All Nippon Airways; meeting with Japan Airlines.

TUESDAY

Lingle: Taipei; meeting with Ministry of Economic Affairs and Bureau of Energy; luncheon with travel industry leaders; meeting with China Airlines; meeting with Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwan's president.

Aiona: Tokyo; meeting with JALPAK; meeting with KNT Kintetsu International; meeting with United Airlines; meeting with Northwest Airlines; return to Hawai'i.

NOV. 19

Lingle: depart for Shanghai, China; opening ceremony of China International Travel Mart.

NOV. 20

Lingle: Shanghai; Participate in the China International Travel Mart, where 23 Hawai'i tourism businesses and organizations will be represented at the Hawai'i booth; news conference and interviews with China media; meeting with China Eastern Airlines; meeting with China National Tourism Administration.

NOV. 21

Lingle: Shanghai; meeting with CITIC and JTB.

NOV. 22

Lingle: return to Hawai'i.
