On protecting the future of beaches in Hawaii

A free public seminar and community discussion on conserving Hawai'i's beaches through the 21st century will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Maui Community College, in the Pilina Building — Student Life.

A seminar also will be held on O'ahu on Nov. 20.

Friday's presentations, by Hawai'i coastal geologists and shoreline specialists, will include:

• Sea-Level Rise in the 21st Century

• Hawai'i's Coastal Protection Policies and Guidelines

• Hawai'i's Beach Management Plans: Initiatives and Implementation Challenges

• Maui's Beach Management Plan

• Hawai'i's Coastal Lands Program: Beach Conservation Efforts for the Future

This is the third in a series of public seminars being held across the state.
