The opening day of the 2008 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is on today at Haleiwa Alii Beach.

The first round and half of the second round of the Reef Hawaiian Pro men's contest is scheduled to run today.

Wave-face heights are in the 6- to 12-foot range.

Among the surfers scheduled to compete today are Bruce Irons of Kauai, former Triple Crown champion Myles Padaca of the North Shore, and former world champion Mark Occhilupo of Australia.
