Maui firefighters receive communications grant

Two companies have teamed up to grant the Maui Fire Department more than $14,000 to install a satellite communications system.

John H. Connors Insurance and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company gave the money to the department to buy a special mobile satellite unit to be installed in one of its emergency command vehicles.

The satellite system will enable firefighters to feed video from a scene so fire officials can view first hand the event.

Since 2004, the Fireman's Fund has issued grants to more than 1,100 fire departments around the country, totaling more than $20 million. The John H. Connor's firm represents a majority of the insurance carries that do business in Hawai'i..
