'Peter Pan' takes flight Dec. 5 at Diamond Head Theatre

By Wayne Harada

"Peter Pan," the beloved musical about a boy who won't grow up, takes flight Dec. 5 at Diamond Head Theatre for a family-friendly holiday run.

With New York-based Greg Zane, a former Islander, directing and choreographing, the show will boast flying stunts devised by Flying by Foy and its Aereographic services.

This means that Christopher Villasenor, who will perform the role of Peter Pan, will soar in flying stunts along with the Darling children, played by Marcela Biven as Wendy, Ari Dalbert as Michael and Thomas Ilalaole as John.

Christopher Obenchain will appear as Captain Hook and Mr. Darling and the cast also features Kathryn Lee as Tiger Lily and Megan Mount as Mrs. Darling.

Based on the play by James M. Barrie, the musical boasts songs by Mark Charlap and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh including "I Won't Grow Up" and "I'm Flying."

It is set in Neverland, a place where children fly and experience frightening adventures; Peter wards off pirates and Indians and Captain Hook.

Tinkerbell, a fixture in the Barrie tale, appears as a lighting effect.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 21. Additional matinees are at 3 p.m. Dec. 13 and 20.

Tickets: $12 to $42, with discounts for students, seniors 62 and older and active- duty military.

Reservations: 733-2074, www.diamondheadtheatre.com.
