As quickly as it came in, a bank of clouds left the southern side of O'ahu yesterday, clearing the Ko'olau range in back of Wai'alae Iki ridge after depositing rain over much of the island.

Don't put away your umbrella yet, as a cold front should arrive tomorrow morning, bringing trade winds and rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The front was a couple hundred miles northwest of Kaua'i yesterday and is slowly making its way toward the Islands, said Tom Birchard, a forecaster with the weather service.

"It's typical winter weather," Birchard said. "Typical for November and December."

Light winds from the south and southeast will bring vog across most of the state.

Honolulu International Airport yesterday recorded a half-inch of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 2 p.m.; Manoa received three-fourths of an inch of rain in the same period.

Weather forecasters are predicting a wetter than normal winter, welcome news for many areas of the state. "If it comes true, it will be helpful for certain areas of the state that are in severe drought," Birchard said.
