Advertiser Staff

Gregory House Programs will honor U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawai'i, at its annual Kahu Malama Dinner tonight at the Hawai'i State Art Museum.

"I am honored to be receiving the Gregory House Programs' annual Kahu Malama Award," Akaka said. "I recognize the tremendous value of the Gregory House Programs in providing essential housing and support services to persons with HIV/AIDS and their families. These extraordinary efforts help improve the quality of life of individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Hawai'i."

The dinner will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the second-floor courtyard of the museum at 250 Hotel St.

Akaka is being honored "for his compassion and commitment to helping those with HIV/ AIDS," Gregory House Programs said in a statement. "Sen. Akaka was instrumental in securing funds to support Gregory House Programs and the renovation project of Gregory House, a transitional housing facility scheduled to begin late this year."

The event includes a silent auction of a wide range of art from local artists, restaurant gift certificates and other items donated from local businesses.

Tickets are $100 including food and wine bar, or $75 for food only. Tickets are available by calling 592-9022; remaining tickets can be purchased at the door.
