Sumo: Hakuho tied for lead at Kyushu tournament

FUKUOKA, Japan — Grand champion Hakuho of Mongolia toppled Kisenosato on Sunday to move into a tie for the lead at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.
In the day's final bout at Fukuoka Kokusai Center, Hakuho sent the No. 4 maegashira to the dirt surface after getting a leg behind Kisenosato's and shoving his opponent down.
Hakuho, who is bidding for his ninth Emperor's Cup, moved is 7-1 atop the standings with Miyabiyama, who lost to Kyokutenho in an earlier bout.
In other major bouts, sekiwake Ama of Mongolia forced out top maegashira Toyonoshima to improve to 6-2 and keep his hopes for promotion to ozeki alive.
No. 6 maegashira Kyokutenho improved to 5-3 while Miyabiyama fell to 7-1.
Ozeki Chiyotaikai is also among the group of wrestlers at 6-2 after he shoved out No. 4 maegashira Tochinoshin, who dropped to 1-7.
Sekiwake Baruto of Estonia overpowered Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu to pick up his sixth win against a pair of losses. Kotooshu has yet to find his form and dropped to 3-5.
Ama is one of nine wrestlers who are one win off the pace at the midway point of the 15-day tourney.
