LEEWARD
10 students winners of Young Artist Award

Ten West O'ahu students recently were named winners of the Leeward Young Artist Award.

Now in its 15th year, the program is sponsored by Kapolei Property Development. The works of 50 student finalists, including the winners, were on display at Kapolei Hale. More than 300 entries were submitted from 17 Leeward O'ahu schools.

The winners are Hailey Paschel (kindergarten), Iroquois Point Elementary School; Henri Harilal (fifth grade), Manana Elementary; Kelli Ann Ulep (sixth), Manana Elementary; Nicole Cristobal (seventh), Highlands Intermediate; Raquel Lasconia (seventh), Kapolei Middle; Aryss Peralta (eighth), Highlands Intermediate; Jennifer Wong (eighth), Kapolei Middle; Heidi Neidheart (11th), Wai'anae High; Sunny Nohara (11th), Kapolei High; and Daniel Remigio (12th), James Campbell High.

At the close of the exhibit, the 10 winners' pieces were professionally framed and put on display for the next year in the James Campbell Building's second floor student gallery.

Additionally, the Honolulu Academy of Arts awarded scholarships to the following three students to attend art classes at the Academy Art Center: Matthew Guhl (fifth), Barbers Point Elementary; Melanie Chandler (eighth), Kapolei Middle; and Joanna Endo (10th), Wai'anae High.
