Vigil to mark makahiki ceremony at Waiawa prison

Advertiser Staff

A community "solidarity vigil" is being planned for the Waiawa Makahiki, a Hawaiian native spirituality ceremony to be held Monday at the Waiawa Correctional Facility.

Tomorrow's vigil will be at 5 p.m. at the mall area at the intersection of Hamilton Library, Henke Hall and Kennedy Theatre on the University of Hawai'i–Manoa campus.

There will be a Makahiki Awa Ceremony and the lighting of the kukui (torches), as well as chanting, sponsored by the Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center and The Center for Indigenous Leadership and Peacemaking.
