Queen Emma portrait to be presented to bishop on Sunday

Advertiser Staff

A portrait of Queen Emma will be presented by Paulie Jennings to Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick 11 a.m. Sunday at the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew.

The portrait was completed in the early 1960s by Fredda Burwell Holt, wife of John Dominis Holt, and is part of her series of portraits of Hawai'i's ali'i. The event will include accompaniment of a chant created for the occasion, and choral offerings by the Cathedral choir; a blessing will be followed by a procession to the cathedral's Memorial Building, where the portrait will be hung.

The presentation will follow the 9 a.m. worship service which will commemorate the lives of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, as well as a reception at 10:30 a.m.
