Firefighters dealt with one flareup today but have managed to contain the spread of a wildfire that has burned about 1,000 acres on Lana'i since noon yesterday despite windy conditions.

The fire is posing no immediate threat to property, officials said.

Most of the work today involved mop-up operations on the ground and continued water drops from helicopters.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
