Team Hawaii beats Japan in Junior Cup golf event

Team Hawaii led from start to finish in beating Japan, 24 1/2 to 19 1/2, in the USA Hawai'i-Japan Junior Cup today at Waikoloa Beach Resort's Kings' Course.

The three-day event featured 44 of the best young players from Japan and Hawai'i in a Ryder Cup format. Golfers (13 boys and nine girls) were between the ages of 13 and 18.

Team Hawai'i grabbed a 6 1/2 to 4 1/2 lead after Day One and took a 14 1/2 to 7 1/2 into the final day. Japan won 12 of the 22 singles matches today (wed.).

Final-day singles winners were Kelli Oride, Alina Ching, Marissa Chow, Casey Isagawa, Bradley Shigezawa, Anna Jang, Alex Chu, Henry Park, Justin Kelly and Taeksoo Kim.
