Want a gorgeous wreath but aren't willing to spend a fortune? Here are tips for creating one inexpensively:

  • Keep an eye out for sales at craft stores. Big sales usually are held after the holidays, but occasionally you can catch one before.

  • Go to garage sales. Sometimes folks sell boxes full of holiday-themed craft supplies for next to nothing.

  • Look in the backyard. Consider using fresh leaves from colorful plants such as crotons and bougainvilleas.

  • Check out the dollar store and Wal-Mart. Sometimes you can find supplies cheaper than those at craft stores.

  • Go thrifting. Thrift shops might have ragged, worn wreaths, but you can take them apart and use the pieces for a new wreath.

  • Borrow tools. If you don't have a hot glue gun or wire cutters, get together with friends who have the right tools for a crafting session.

  • Use what you have. Use tacky glue, if you don't have a hot glue gun. It works as well as a hot glue gun, but it does take a lot longer to dry, says Karen Edenfield of Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores.
