Red Cross closes Waianae shelter

Advertiser Staff

The American Red Cross has closed the shelter it opened last night because of the high winds and rainfall in Wai'anae.

The shelter, was slosed this morning at 8 a.m. because the weather conditions have improved, the American Red Cross has said. The shelter had been located at Waianae District Park, 85-601 Farrington Highway. It opened at 6 p.m. last night.

A spokeswoman said about 30 people living on the beach had their tents shredded by the high winds, so the shelter was opened to help them.
