Donate goods, services to transitional shelter

Honolulu Community Action Program's transitional housing-only facility is scheduled to open in early January and donations of goods and services are needed in anticipation of that day.

The newly named Kumuhonua Transitional Shelter will have 70 units that can house up to 140 people. Only those 18 and older will allowed. As a transitional shelter, preference will be given to those who are referred by emergency shelters in the West O'ahu region and are on their way to permanent housing.

Needed are:

  • Personal toiletries.

  • Outdoor and garden supplies.

  • Program and art supplies.

  • Gift cards.

  • Books, magazines and newspaper subscriptions.

  • Kitchen and laundry supplies.

  • Recreational equipment and supplies.

  • Instructors or teachers for such things as yoga, tai chi, weaving, 'ukulele, gardening, calligraphy, cooking, typing, photography, dance, language, art and writing.
