Coast Guard rescues ill man from Midway Island

HONOLULU — A U.S. Coast Guard air crew from Barbers Point has successfully evacuated a stricken contractor from Midway Island.

Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center personnel in Honolulu received a call 10:45 a.m. Tuesday from a physician on Midway, concerning a 39-year-old contractor who was experiencing chest pains.

A Coast Guard C-130 plane crew from Air Station Barbers Point along with a Disaster Medical Assist Team flew to Midway and picked up the ill man at approximately 9:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Air crew members then transported the man to Air Station Barbers Point, where city emergency medical services personnel met the plane and then transported the man to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu at 3:40 a.m.
