CBKB: Alaska-Anchorage tops Louisiana Tech

Associated Press

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Kenny Barker scored 23 points and Alaska-Anchorage hung on to defeat Louisiana Tech 62-57 today for seventh place in the Great Alaska Shootout.

Barker's 3-pointer broke a 51-all tie and gave the Seawolves (1-5) the lead for good with 6:46 remaining.

The Division II school had trouble getting off shots against the taller Bulldogs and committed eight turnovers in the first 8 minutes. But Louisiana Tech shot just 33 percent for the half, including 1-of-8 on 3-pointers, and needed 11 free throws to lead 30-29 at halftime.

Kyle Gibson hit two free throws to pull Louisiana Tech within 60-57 with 9.6 seconds left. The Bulldogs (2-4) fouled Barker on the inbound pass and he hit both ends of a one-on-one to seal it.

Gibson led Louisiana Tech with 17 points. Kenneth Cooper had 15.
