Advertiser Staff

A 42-year-old police officer sustained minor facial injuries after he was allegedly jumped by a 19-year-old male early this morning.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, a first-degree felony, and on suspicion of second-degree theft following the incident.

According to police reports, the officer was assaulted as he conducted checks in a vehicle that was left abandoned in a roadway.

As the officer stood near the vehicle, the suspect allegedly emerged from a nearby bush and attacked the officer. During the attack the suspect also tore the officer's badge off his uniform, police said.

The suspect was arrested at Farrington Highway and Makau Street at 1:48 a.m.
