'Live Energy Lite' celebration set for Pearlridge

Advertiser Staff

PEARL CITY – Hawaiian Electric Company's fifth annual Live Energy Lite family fun day will be held from 10a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11at the Pearlridge Uptown Center Stage.

The festivities celebrate October as National Energy Awareness Month and will include live entertainment by Manoa DNA, as well as games, prizes, and interactive exhibits featuring energy conservation and environmental awareness themes.

"All of us have been feeling the pinch of higher energy costs – from gasoline, to groceries, to home electricity bills," said Ka`iulani de Silva, director of Education & Consumer Affairs. "Through our Live Energy Lite outreach, we hope to give families the information and tools they need to make wise choices about their electricity usage.

"Even small changes can add up to big savings. Every little bit counts," continued de Silva. "For example, if in 2003 a customer had picked up our Top 10 Tips for Energy Conservation brochure and implemented those tips, that customer could have saved just under $4000 by 2008."

At the first Live Energy Lite celebration, held in October 2003 at Ala Moana Center Stage, Hawaiian Electric's Top 10 Tips for Energy Conservation brochure was introduced to encourage customers to try simple, low-cost ways to conserve energy.

Hawaiian Electric experts will be on hand at Pearlridge to showcase the wide variety of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) available today including 3-way, dimmables, chandelier, and floodlights.

At this year's event, Hawaiian Electric will offer customers even more valuable information with the new 101 Ways to Save brochure, featuring a broader range of energy saving tips.
