Hawaii Medical Center, the hospital operator that is in bankruptcy, said Dr. Collin Dang will take over as chief executive officer, replacing Dr. Danelo Canete.

Dang, one of Hawai'i's top cardiovascular surgeons, was most recently chief of cardiac surgery at Hawaii Medical Center - East in Liliha.

Canete said he is stepping down to focus on his cardiac patients after two years at the head of Hawaii Medical Center.
