Pennsylvania man dies after Kauai ocean rescue

A 73-year-old man from York, Penn., died today on Kaua'i after being rescued from the ocean at Lawa'i Beach Resort.

The man was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.

Police have classified the case as an unattended death pending autopsy findings for cause and manner.

According to police, the man was snorkeling at about 9:30 a.m. when a surfer saw him in distress and brought him to shore. The victim then collapsed. A bystander performed CPR until firefighters from the Koloa station arrived.
