Kunia wildfire contained; burned 55 acres

Advertiser Staff

It took 50 firefighters about two hours today to contain a hillside wildfire that burned 55 acres on the Wai'anae side of Kunia Road, about one-quarter mile north of Hawaii Country Club.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Terry Seelig said the fire posed no serious threat to property although it did come close to an AM radio station transmitting tower, causing possible damage to its support guide wires.

The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m. and declared contained at 4 p.m., about a mile below Schofield Barracks.
